The first step was to walk from the front door into that new, bigger and prettier store, which houses a new restaurant and a new brewery

The first steps were also to walk the entire length of the walk and pick up the sign at the back of the building

We then started walking to the new store where my father was born in the spring of 1942 and was very lucky to have a local food shop to fill his gap at the time.

He was on the staff at the store when it was all done. It was just about 40 feet up the chimney wall from the front doors.

The building looks so new now and I can see that it will be very difficult to get back in and out of there by car and then it will just be a nightmare.

Before going back

My dad was a local butcher and always worked around the clock as he had my siblings doing work for him.

The store was so small it took several months before we could get together after Christmas. It was just a couple of houses outside of town and it had nothing like a grocery store.

The whole place was so small that my father would take you down to a corner office and sit on the kitchen stool which he used to build on for the day. That's why no one would open the front door. He thought that would make you come back.
